Established in 1931, the company has earned its place as a key player in the Mauritian business landscape and is a pioneer of the distilling industry in Mauritius. Combining quality and local expertise, Grays has strived to draw on the depth of our heritage to create brands that celebrate the excellence of Mauritian craftsmanship and promote Mauritius as having a real potential to manufacture and sell alcoholic products regionally and internationally. Today, Grays shares the history of Mauritius with the world ; the New Grove Collection. Entirely produced, created and crafted at the Estate, New Grove rums are the fruit of a rich soil, climate, culture and know-how like no other. They are 100% Mauritian!

Our portfolio, thoughtfully crafted, is constantly adapting and evolving according to the desires and needs of our customers. We quickly diversified to develop more global offers for our customers, including homecare, cosmetics and food with brands like 20/Vin, L’Occitane, M.A.C, Beauty Success Paris, Cocoon and Colors. Those retail shops are now present in all the strategic spots across the island to offer exceptional service to our customers. Grays has well-known brands in each of its Business Units that have already made their way into everyday consumer life.
Wine & Spirit Distributor in Mauritius
In addition to being a producer, we are also one of the largest wine and spirits merchants on the island to distribute a wide range of renowned brands, such as Dom Pérignon, Moët et Chandon, Hennessy, Jack Daniel’s, and Glenfiddich.
These popular international Wine & Spirit brands have been represented by Grays Inc Ltd in Mauritius for many years and we have set up specific Business Units with talented professionals to take care of the operations needed for the distribution.

Grays Inc. Ltd through the years
1931 (July 14)
The begining of an ongoing heritage
The Mauritius O.K. Distillery Company Limited is born in Port-Louis.
Producing mainly rum, it broadens its activity over the years to include a larger range of spirits. From the 1970s onwards, in a first-of-its-kind practice, the company begins using alcohol as a base to produce Eau de Cologne.
1962
Harel Frères after acquiring its first shares in November 1931 and buying almost all the existing shares in 1951 becomes the sole shareholeder. The company continues to prosper under the leadership of Jean Allendy Harel and then Guy Raffray.
1985
With the construction of its new conditioning centre in Beau Plan, Grays permanently moves from Solitude.
1990
Grays gets up to speed and becomes one of the first companies in Mauritius to go digital by adopting the famous Cobol programming language. Following with World Financials in 2000 and the Oracle E-business Suite application suite in 2005 which was subsequently replaced by Oracle Fusion Cloud in 2019. In 2021, the company turns its sights towards artificial intelligence to optimize its performance.
1997
Breaking new ground in the market, Grays continues to diversify and acquires East Indies Company Limited. Quality products, within the food, homecare, and the pharmaceutical industries, are now successfully distributed under the Grays brand.
2003
The company broadens its offering to include luxury cosmetics within its portfolio. The famous L’Occitane en Provence brand, known for its natural products with Provencal notes, enters the Mauritian market under the aegis of Grays. By 2021, the brand has 4 stores across the island.
2006
To position Grays on the world map, Distell, a global South African wine and spirits producer and marketer, acquires 26% of its shares – offering more visibility to the company’s products.
2016
Grays launches its new rum, Lazy Dodo, produced in the same cellars as New Grove, its flagship collection. In the same year, the company acquires the Scotch Whisky brand, Findlater’s, intended for the local market.
2017
Grays becomes the official distributor of cosmetics giant M.A.C and opens its first store in Bagatelle. In 2021, the brands footprint in Mauritius expands as a new M.A.C store opens in Mahogany, Beau Plan.
2018
Grays innovates once again with the creation of Beau Plan Cellars, a tropical aging service offered to private clients and investors. The company provides its expertise and barrels as a personalized service to its customers. With a storage capacity of 800,000 litres, Grays is becoming the hub for tropical aging in the Indian Ocean.
2021
Grays Inc Ltd keeps growing! A company of only 40 people in 1980, has now reached 500 employees.
